What do you want out of life?

What do you want out of life? Are you someone who feels like you have tried everything and still aren’t achieving your goals? If you have been at this for a long time, what do you have to lose? I want to set the stage by saying this is your life and you should have what you want. There is no reason you can’t. Some people do well with setting goals, getting started, and staying motivated. That isn’t the case for most of us. Most of us set a goal, start taking actions, and then deal with all the limiting beliefs that keep feeding back to us. This post will help you to put that behind you once and for all. You will be able to achieve your goals without meeting resistance from yourself. This is a step by step guide. Feel free to DM me with any questions or clarifications. I want to start this by saying I acknowledge nothing happens until action is taken, but let me show you how to take most of the pain out of the action. Let’s get started.

Step 1 – Visualize Your Goal Fulfilled

The first step is to just get clear on what you want, and more importantly feel the feelings that you think having this goal would provide you. Envision what a day in your life would look like after achieving this goal. Sometimes, even during this first step you will notice negative thoughts come up. They may be thoughts like, you can’t do this for some reason, this will be too hard, or what will be different this time? If this happens to you, just imagine that it is not possible for you to fail at this. This guidance will make more sense in a minute.

Step 2 – Realize That Things Don’t Work the Way You Think

If you have read any of my prior writing, you will probably have heard this analogy before. Have you ever driven somewhere meanwhile getting deeply lost in thought? When you arrive at your destination you realize you don’t even remember the drive. Since you are a practiced driver your unconscious mind just drove you there, without you realizing it. We like to think that everything is up to us, but the truth is that much of our life runs on autopilot. The computer behind the autopilot is our unconscious mind. If our unconscious mind is guided by powerful positive beliefs, and we just offload how things will happen to the unconscious it can almost seem magic. The secret is that it isn’t up to our conscious mind to know how things will happen. The reticular activating system (RAS) is at the base of your brain. It filters out anything you don’t believe or think about. Another one of my analogies is that you don’t notice blue Jeeps until you decide to buy one. Then they appear everywhere. This is your RAS. If you keep the belief of your dream fulfilled you will see how your unconscious can help you. The key to being successful with this is to realize that it isn’t up to you. If you choose to submit your dreams to your unconscious, the universe, God, source, or whatever works for you, things will just unfold. Another key is that you can’t be dependent on the outcome. The moment your desire is stronger than the beliefs that your dream is on its way, your RAS will start working against you. A sense of want is a sense of lack. You will have thoughts that you lack your desire, and your RAS will filter out all the opportunities for you to achieve your goal.

Step 3 – Treat Your Work Towards Your Goal as Practice

Professional Athletes are great at what they do for two reasons. Reason number one is that they practice a lot. Tiger Woods would hit hundreds of golf balls from every distance with every club, almost every day. He developed an unconscious muscle memory. Reason number two is that they have learned to control the six inches between their left and right ears, better than most. This reason to practice and learn steps 1 and 2 are to help you with this part. They help you learn that the universe has your back. If you get steps one and two right, then your RAS won’t filter out the opportunities for you to get to work. If you practice step 3 and just treat the work as practice, all the while believing that the unconscious has your back, you won’t have that fear of failure. You won’t be dependent on the outcome, and because of that you won’t be worried about what could go wrong.

Sometimes people really get this and it helps drastically right away, but for some of us it takes a while. Just keep believing it isn’t all up to you, and do what is in front of you to do.
