I want to wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. I hope your new year brings you more of all the things you want in your life. To help with that, I would  like to provide a free one time, one and a half hour “Gateway Coaching Session” to the first five to respond here. Many new year’s resolutions don’t make it past January. If you find yourself in this camp, you are in good company. This “Gateway Coaching Session” will help you avoid the common pitfalls that cause new year’s resolutions to get pushed aside. It is designed for those who won’t likely hire a life coach, but are committed to living a happier and richer life. This session will give you a brand new perspective on achieving more of what you want, and the traditional ways you approach it. It will also help you build a foundation to support you in a crazy world.

Here is the outline of a Gateway Mindfulness session.

Client Introduction

The first part of the session will be getting to know each other, and setting expectations. We will also touch on what you would like to achieve in the this new endeavor, or in the case the new year.

I need to take this opportunity to say this session and our interaction is not considered medical or mental health advice. If you have medical or mental health issues, or any questions about them you should refer these questions to your doctor or a certified mental health professional. I have a life coaching certification which does. not qualify me as a mental health professional.

Acceptance

Past

Acceptance that your current circumstances are what they are, and couldn’t be different because they aren’t. You are where you are and that is OK. That doesn’t mean you can’t act right now to make the future different, it just means that there is no return on investment in focusing on the past. You can’t change what happened, and you made the best decisions you could with what you had to work with. Again I know that, because you are where you are, and if you could have been someplace different you would be.

Future

Accept that you have no idea what is going to happen in the future. That doesn’t mean you can’t act right now to shape your future, it just means that the nature of the future is uncertain.

Present

In the present moment accept 100% responsibility where you are and where you are going. This doesn’t mean accepting blame for anything that happened in the past, because it is what it is. It just means you won’t be approaching life as a victim.

Goals and Triggers

Set Your Highest Priority Goal

Set the goal that you really want to accomplish. The one goal you want that is more important to you than any other.

Imagine a Day in Your New Life

Write down and visualize what a day in your life would look like after you achieve your goal.

What Would that Goal Provide You?

We all usually want some or all of the following. Security, Acceptance, Love. These are good examples of what you think your goal may bring.  Just make your own list, and really think about them.

First Five Tasks

Write down the first five tasks that you think you will need to complete to reach your goals.

Difference Point

Note: This is where the magic in this coaching session begins. As you were going through any of the above, did your mind go negative on you? Maybe it told you that what you want isn’t possible, might be too hard, or for some other reason unattainable? These are the self-limiting beliefs that are holding you back. What you did in the past couldn’t be any different, and you have no idea what you could be capable of in the future. These self limiting beliefs are just life presenting you with opportunities to ensure your success at the foundation of the process. These prisons and limiting beliefs are the one thing we all share, and they represent nearly a perfect 100% of the reasons that people fail or quit. You can’ t fail if you don’t quit, and you can’t fail without these limiting beliefs.

Discovery In Practice

As you go through the coming days working towards your goal, notice when these limiting thoughts and beliefs come up. When they come up, question them. Think about what event in your life may have caused you to think this way.

Perspective is the other thing to change when working through the tasks to your goal. Treat it all as practice. It is no accident that a law office or doctor’s office is called a practice. There is always room for improvement.

Mindfulness and Self Awareness

Self and situational awareness are the antidote for all the common reasons for failure, or not getting where you want to go. This is where you begin to override all those limiting beliefs. In this section I will give you a guided mindfulness session, and then daily practical mindfulness exercises. Many of my clients use the practical mindfulness exercises if they initially have difficulties with mindfulness practice. Many people se mindfulness as a spiritual practice, and that may be part of it, but expanding self and situational awareness, and approaching life mindfully is actually very practical.
