I was going through my Facebook messages this morning and saw a video pop up in my feed.  I have included a link to the YouTube.com video below. Listen to the words, and you will find a common sentiment, although it may be expressed a little differently in your circles.  Regardless, I hope that this blog post will inspire us to take action as a nation of decent people.   The link below  is a Country song by Bryan Martin, titled “Divided States”.  It is a song about how our country has become divided along political and racial lines.  It reminds me that the heart of America is experiencing cognitive dissonance.  The fact is that the majority of us no longer tightly associate with either political party, and we aren’t racists.  I am also reminded that there are over 330 million people in the US, and most of us share a basic set of common values around things like the golden rule.  We all want what is best for our families, and we might disagree on what exactly that entails, but the only thing holding us back from uniting is the political establishment and corporate interests fighting for power.  Don’t get me wrong, we have a lot of work to do, but our current leadership is not getting the job done.  The corporate interests inside of our government serve to divide rather than unite.  America, we deserve better leadership at the top of our country. 

Maybe a small group of men at the top can’t or won’t solve these issues, but 330 million Americans can surely figure out a way.  It is time for us to quit deceiving ourselves that our flavor of truth is really truth, and open our minds enough to at least hear the other side out.  We may not agree, but at a minimum we should be able to civilly discuss and resolve our relational issues. It is time to put our country back on solid ground, and if we can all unite under that single cause, I am confident we can do better.  Would love to hear your thoughts.
