The Power of Flow
Look outside. This morning, the sun rose on its own. Clouds gathered, bringing vital rain to the plants and grass. Nature knows exactly what to do. Seasons change, and adjustments are made effortlessly. Everything in the universe is in perfect motion, sustaining life on our planet.
Now, compare this harmony to the lives of those striving for worldly success. We’re often told, “no pain, no gain,” or “if it is to be, it is up to me“. It’s true that action is necessary—nothing happens without it.
But what if the gain lies in letting your action unfold naturally, just like the rising sun?
The Universal Rhythm
Inherent in our world is a rhythm of ebbs and flows. This isn’t just about sunsets and seasons; it applies to everything:
- Relationships and political systems.
- The economy.
- Your careers and businesses.
Throughout my twenty-five years in the technology industry, I witnessed this pattern repeatedly: periods of massive growth followed by a plateau, new investment, and then renewed, complex growth. When I was younger, I worried constantly. As Mark Twain noted, “I experienced some terrible things, and some of them even happened”.
Having seen these cycles before, I now understand. It is simply the ebb and flow of our world.
Tapping Into Your Best Self
Success with ease is found in becoming deeply aware of your surroundings—and yourself. When do you perform your absolute best? Is it when you are stressed, insecure, or uptight?
Just like the sun, our state of mind rises and falls.
- Observe Your Cycles: Once you become aware of these ups and downs, you can learn to observe and manage them. Watch your internal state the way you might watch a beautiful sunset.
- Find Your Flow: Have you ever lost all track of time while working, only to find your productivity skyrocketing? This is the state of flow. When you know how to enter this state, it becomes much easier to access it.
By accepting the natural rhythm and managing your mind’s state, you can be effective, helpful, and easily avoid excessive worry. Stop striving, start flowing.
